Is 2010 The Year of Dr Martens

In 2009 i began writing this blog in a vain attempt to remind everyone what was / is so great about Dr Martens and have discussed a number of things relevant to this theme. However i now predict that 2010 will see a huge revival of Dr Martens as a must have fashion item for a number of reasons.

This morning i watched GMTV  for the first time in a long time and was happily surprised when the lady who they bring on to discuss fashion recommended a pair of Dr Martens within her slot. I had not heard anyone mention Dr Martens as a fashion item for the main stream market in very many years mainly (i believe) because of their association with a number of sub-cultures both in the UK and abroad that are deemed undesirables (their thoughts not mine). It was only after this initial thought that i began to question what might if anything bring Dr Martens back in 2010.

Dr Martens have always been symbols (especially within the UK) of times of  political, social and economical unrest and lets all face up to facts 2009 has not scored too highly in any of these respects.. could we be experiencing the beginning  of a new sub-culture stemming from the main stream…..mmmm probably not, although it would be amazing i dont think the music at present is good enough to lead a youth movement equal to those past and certainly not good enough for a main stream revolution, so something else must have or might be changing.

My final thoughts turned to Dr Martens themselves, and although my previous thoughts were certainly more interesting my common sense led me to a much, much less interesting assumption. Dr Martens have quite simply over the previous couple of years been releasing great looking boots and shoes for both ladies and men that are appealing to the masses.

Great work Dr Martens but a revolution would have been better and if not more interesting.
